VŌS SERIOUS

The very purpose of our existence here at TMR is to discover - and in turn, help you to discover - new and emerging bands and artists that show plenty of promise, whether that’s to garner a cult following, define a scene in their community, or become an all-out breakthrough name. British partnership VŌS (Dawn Moss and Robin Peakes) fits into the category of pop chart contender with their intravenous R&B single ‘Serious’, which was mixed by Julian Kindred (Ellie Goulding) and mastered by Matt Colton (James Blake, Flume). As you’re listening, this cool, steady track will pulsate around your system, eventually taking over your body, preparing for that sweet chorus of danceable rhythms and stand-out line, “Do you wanna get serious? / So I can feel this good forever / Let me cry your name / Are you going to treat me right?” The song walks the line between head-over-heels lust and the anxiety that holds you back for fear of being hurt, most likely not for the first time. The video is a perfectly in-sync companion to ‘Serious’, as Moss tells us: “The concept of the song is about that feeling you get when you first meet someone that you don’t want to fade away. We got a number of friends in as extras for the video to create a visual metaphor of that feeling when even though you’re in a room full of people, the person you’re with makes you feel like you’re the only two in there. That’s why as soon as they touch everyone else disappears." This connection is as intoxicating as VŌS’ sleek and sensual alternative R&B track, and as soon as you click play, all else does indeed disappear. - Hannah Thacker
